Dr. Charles Chilimampunga
Dr Charles Chilimampunga is the Director of the Centre
for Social Research since January 2005 when he joined the Centre
from Chancellor College of the same University of Malawi. Dr Chilimampunga
is a trained sociologist and has a Master of Philosophy (UK) and
PhD (Canada) both focusing on socio-economic development. His areas
of interest include migration, food security, socio-cultural dimensions
of public health, rural livelihoods, poverty and gender issues,
social impact assessment of projects, and community services. He
has carried out research in these and other areas in the past 20
years. Dr Chilimampunga has been a consultant for various local
and international organizations.

Dr. Alister Chawundumuka Munthali
Dr. Alister C. Munthali is the Deputy Director of the Centre
for Social Research in charge of research and training. He is a
medical anthropologist and obtained his PhD in anthropology from
Rhodes University in South Africa in 2003 and a Master of Arts from
the University of Amsterdam in 1999. Before joining the Centre for
Social Research in January 1996, he worked with the Ministry of
Labour and Vocational Training as an Industrial Hygienist. Between
1997 and 1999, he was involved in the transnational study on social
science and immunization which was directed by Professor Pieter
Streefland of the University of Amsterdam and the Royal Tropical
Institute in the Netherlands. Since then, his major area of interest
has been on children looking at local perceptions about the causes,
treatment and prevention of childhood illnesses. His other areas
of interest are the social aspects of HIV and AIDS, child labour,
disability, occupational health and safety, adolescent sexual and
reproductive health and urban health. He has published in internationally
refereed journals such as the African Anthropologist, the Nordic
Journal of African Studies and the Malawi Medical Journal.

Charles C. Chunga
Charles Chunga is an Assistant Director responsible for Administration
and Finance at Centre for Social Research. He has a Master of Public
Administration and a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration.
His areas of interest include: Corruption, Public Policy, Public
Finance and Budgeting, Public Sector Reform and Management, Project
Management and Evaluation, Organization Development, and Human Resource
Management. Mr. Chunga has been involved in several research studies,
particularly in the field of Democracy and Governance.
Dr. Peter Mvula
Dr. Mvula is a socio-economist and has a Master of Professional
Studies (International Development) and PhD in Rural Development
concentrating on rural livelihoods from the University of East Anglia
(UK) obtained in 2002. He is also a gender analyst and trainer.
Dr. Mvula has done surveys in the fields of rural livelihoods, nutritional
status of rural communities, food security, safety nets and rural
livelihoods, health related issues, poverty analysis and on disaster
and relief operations.

Maxton Grant Tsoka
Mr. Tsoka is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Social
Research, University of Malawi. His areas of expertise include economic
analyses, poverty analysis and analysis of public finance. As a
research fellow he has worked on project/programme analysis in terms
of design, implementation and impact; public expenditure analysis;
budget analysis; poverty analysis and costing of health services.
Before joining the University of Malawi in 1995, Mr. Tsoka worked
as an Economist in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development
dealing with transport, macroeconomics, commerce and industry.

John Kadzandira
John Kadzandira has a Masters Degree in Human Nutrition and a Bachelors
Degree in Agriculture (majoring in Human Nutrition). His research
interests resonate around poverty and livelihoods analysis, HIV/AIDS
and social & public health. John is a seasoned researcher capable
of managing international, national and area-based studies and has
in the last ten years been a consultant for the government of Malawi,
the National AIDS Commission of Malawi, Family Health International
– Regional HIV/AIDS Programme Southern Africa, Health Research
for Action of Belgium, the World Bank, European Union, UNICEF, DfId
and many other national and international agencies. John is a member
of several international research networks on HIV/AIDS, poverty
and food security.
